frequently asked questions Q: what is autonomAS.net? A: we provide BGP peering and IPv6 prefix allocation with IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity, tunneled over your existing internet connection. get your own ASN and IP space without needing a datacenter or expensive carrier connection. Q: do i need my own datacenter? A: no! that's the whole point. we tunnel BGP over your regular home or office internet connection. Q: what's the difference between PA and PI addressing? A: during beta, we only support PA (Provider Aggregatable) space which is allocated from our block. PI (Provider Independent) support will be added after beta ends. Q: what's the difference between public and private ASN? A: during beta, we only support private ASN (4200000000-4294967294) which is free and automatically assigned. public ASN support will be added after beta ends. Q: can i sign up now? A: not yet. autonomAS.net is in preview and we open the beta in small batches. join the waitlist and we invite you when a slot is free. Q: is this production-ready? A: no. the beta is functional, but there is no sla. do not use it for mission-critical services without proper redundancy. Q: what protocols do you support? A: we support BGP4 for routing, and GRE/IPsec GRE for tunneling. for authentication/rendezvous we support IKE (IPsec) and Dynamic DNS (DDNS). Q: what is Dynamic DNS (DDNS)? A: DDNS is an HTTP API that allows your router or client to automatically update your IP address with our service. this is useful if you have a dynamic IP from your ISP. DDNS is supported by many routers and clients like ddclient. Q: how much does it cost? A: service is free during beta within fair use limits. pricing will be announced when we exit beta. early adopters will receive preferential rates. Q: do you support IPv4 and IPv6? A: yes. the IPv6 unnumbered peering session carries both IPv4 and IPv6 routes. you get a /48 IPv6 prefix. Q: can i get a single IPv4 address? A: not during the beta. we plan single IPv4 addresses for later, with limited availability. tell us on the waitlist if you are interested. Q: how do i get help? A: email us at hello@autonomas.net or check our help page. ← back to home
